Ride Descriptions

This year, our start/finish location is once again on the beautiful campus of UCLA, with fun sights at the beginning and end of both rides!

Once again we have two ride options to accommodate different riding styles and abilities…remember, this is a fun ride and not a race…so above all, enjoy the day on your bike in Los Angeles!

We have an advanced ride of approximately 62 miles, a metric century that will have a partial LAPD rolling traffic closure for the first 10 miles (approximately), then we will re-group and restart.

Recreational Ride:

The 32 mile recreational ride will go in a new direction as well… but still have a full rolling LAPD traffic closure for the entire route. The recreational ride will be slow to moderately paced…this is a FUN ride NOT a race. At 10-12MPH average speed the ride will take about 3 hours with the rest stop included.

  •  A SAG wagon with minor mechanical repair ability will follow the ride.
  •  One rest stop with food, water & bathrooms

Recreational Route:

The recreational ride will head south, then east to LaBrea before turning north to Hollywood.  The ride then heads east along Hollywood Blvd past the iconic Chinese Theatre along the Hollywood Walk of Fame and other classic Hollywood sights.  Through Thai Town and Los Feliz along Sunset to Echo Park.

The ride continues downtown through the 2nd Street tunnel and up and around Bunker Hills, past the LA Cathedral, Music Center and Disney Concert Hall…before descending toward LA Live, Staples Center the LA Convention Center.  The ride turns west toward Vermont…(the street not the state), to a rest stop at the Olympic Station of the LAPD.  After the Rest Stop…the ride heads west through Century City and West LA back to Westwood and the beautiful UCLA Campus and a delicious Sharky’s Lunch.

Advanced Ride:

***ADVANCED RIDERS MUST PICK UP A ROUTE SLIP!!!!***

  •  There will be two designated rest stops with food, water and bathrooms along the advanced route after the re-start.
  •  A SAG wagon with minor mechanical repair ability will follow the ride.
  •  At this point all riders must have a route slip to navigate the course on their own
  •  After the re-start, all riders will ride at their own pace following the designated route.

The Advanced Route:

The initial rolling closure will be at 15-17 MPH (Avg)…and if you can’t maintain that speed and drop out of the rolling closure you have several options: 1) you can ride the rest of the ride at your own pace; 2) You can wait and rejoin the recreational ride which will be approximately an hour behind the advanced ride; 3) you can jump on the SAG wagon.

The route for the advanced ride will leave Westwood and head south, before heading east to La Brea.  At LaBrea the ride will turn north to Hollywood, where we will have the re-group and re-start.  The riders will continue over Cahuenga Pass by Universal City and over to Griffith Park for a quick loop. The first rest stop will be in this area.
